This April, LaCie returned to Las Vegas to participate in the 2010 National Association of Broadcasters convention – known to most as the NAB Show. In addition to highlighting our diverse products for content creators, we featured a few stellar software demos that show the enhanced usability and style of LaCie's multimedia offerings.
Two industry software demonstrations highlighted LaCie’s growing portfolio of enterprise solutions. AutoDesk’s recently released Smoke® software ran off a Mac Pro Quad Core with storage provided by LaCie’s own 12big Rack Fibre. This robust 12-disk RAID storage solution features four 4Gb/s fibre channel connections, dual internal RAID controllers, and up to 24TB of capacity for redundancy and speed, and supports up to 500MB/s of throughput.
Additionally, Final Cut Pro® ran footage from an Apple Xserve with storage support provided by LaCie’s 12big Rack Serial, allowing for simultaneous playback of multiple video streams. With 12 drives configured for video editing (two RAID 5 partitions stripped together), our team was able to demonstrate that 530MB/s of throughput means there is no fear of dropped frames. With additional hardware provided by both ATTO and AJA, LaCie was able to showcase a fully functional workstation perfectly suited for post-production demands.
Online storage continues to integrate into technology workflows for many professionals. LaCie answered questions regarding our in-house cloud computing offering, Wuala. An interactive station allowed participants to learn more about Wuala and its many features, including sharing and security. USB 3.0 products rounded out our conference showcase. PCI-Express adaptor cards for laptops and multi-port cards for desktop computers garnered lots of attention as users look to begin the USB 3.0 technology integration. LaCie showcased our most popular mobile drive, the Rugged, which now features the new USB 3.0 interface. The Rugged USB 3.0 is now available, and with speeds of up to 110MB/s, it promises to be one of the fastest mobile drives on the market.
From a product marketing perspective, it's always enjoyable to attend the NAB Show. We have the pleasure of connecting with current enthusiasts as well as recruiting new users while discussing the technology that keeps vital digital assets secure – whether in the cloud or on your desktop. We will look forward to seeing you all again (or meeting you for the first time!) at next year's 2011 NAB event.
